SSPCA Visit

As part of our topic this term, Primary 2 were treated to a visit from the SSPCA. We were told all about farms and all the things the SSPCA look for when they're inspecting them. This helped us to learn all about how to look after farm animals.

Growing Cress

As part of our special Joyning the Learning, we have been learning all about growing plants. We know all about the roots, stem, leaves and flowers. In class, we all tried to grow our own cress - we put the seeds on wet cotton wool in a plastic cup and made sure they had plenty of light and water. We also wrote down a set of instructions for growing cress in our Writing lesson.

Gladigator!!

Once again, Primary 2 (as well as Primaries 1 and 3) were lucky enough to have the Gladigator and his team come to visit them. Everyone revised all the important things we need to know to keep our teeth clean and healthy and then got chance to play on the huge bouncy castle. Just look at these photos to see how much fun we had!!!

2012 is sure to be a great for for all of us in Kirklandneuk Primary School. We are back "home" in Ard Road in our fabulous building which looks absolutely amazing inside!
Primary 2b have had a few other wee changes too - we are no longer Room 6 - we are now Room 5, we said "Goodbye" to Mrs Wilson at Christmas and now welcome Miss McMillan as our teacher on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Mrs Hutchison still does Monday, Thursday and Friday) and we have all made up new groups and hometeams in our class.

We are all looking forward to the year ahead!

Active Maths in our new classroom

Now that we are settling in back in our fabulous building in Ard Road, we are really getting down to lots of hard work. One of our favourite things in our class is Active Maths. We learn so much and have lots of great fun at the same time. We love the activities even more in our lovely new classroom! Just have a look at us learning and having fun!

We were all so excited to return to school after Christmas this year as we couldn't wait to see what our school looked like! On our very first day back we enjoyed seeing our new cloakroom and fabulous classroom, then had a tour of the school. Wow! We are all so impressed. Christmas Fun

The month of December was a very busy one for us. We were busy packing up our class getting ready for the move back to Ard Road, learning all our songs and lines for our Nativity - Whoops-a-Daisy Angel - and preparing for Christmas. All our performances were a great success and at Chritmas we enjoyed a fabulous party with all the other Primary 2s and we had a very special guest. Can you guess who? The photos below might give you a wee clue!!

Sandwiches

Primary 2b all enjoyed designing and making a healthy sandwich!

We all decided to make a banana sandwich on wholemeal bread. We worked with our shoulder partner to make the sandwich then really enjoyed eating them!

Afterwards, we wrote about making our sandwich at Writing time. We learned how to write instructions and all tried to use the words "first", "then", "next" and "finally". Everyone worked very hard!

Gladigator!

On Thursday 22nd September the Gladigator came to visit our school. All of the Primary 2s went together. First Liz reminded us all about brushing our teeth and the Gladigator came into help too! Then it was time to have fun on the bouncy castle!

Active Learning

In Primary 2b, we love to learn in many different ways, but one of our very favourites is Active Leanring - especially at Maths time! Each week we get 6 new activities which help us learn about Maths. Here are some photos of us taking part in activities for Addition, Subtraction and Money.

Settling in

All children in Primary 2b have settled back into school. They have created their own class charter which focuses on everyone's rights and responsibilities in the classroom. The children have also decided what it takes to be a Quality Classroom. Here are some photos of the class being a Quality Line and a Quality Audience.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

We were sad to say goodbye to the dinosaurs but are loving our new topic The Seaside! We have changed our hometeam seats and have given our groups new names. We are called the jellyfish, the seashells, the seagulls and the starfish. We can't wait to go to Lunderston Bay on our school trip! We plan on exploring rockpools, building sandcastles and having a fabulous time!

End of Term Reward

Primary 2b really enjoyed the end of term reward. We had a dodge ball tournament in the gym hall and then we went to Renfrew Sports Centre. At the sports centre our coach had set up some really fun activities for us. There were six activity stations where we did a variety of different exercises. We were so tired by the time we got back to school!

Open Evening

In primary 2b we have worked so hard on our dinosaur topic. We have had so much fun doing lots of new and exciting things. We have made paper mache dinosaur eggs, fossils out of clay and have worked in groups to paint lots of dinosaurs. We loved going out into the playground to measure out the lengths of a tyrannosaurus, a triceratops and a stegosaurus. It was so exciting for us to have our friends and family come to our open evening and see all the things we have been doing this term in our fantastic classroom. It was fun to be a palaeontologist for the night and teach our mums and dads something new! We are so proud of everything that we have achieved this term. We will be sad to say goodbye to the dinosaurs but eager to find out what we will be doing next term!

WOW Week

During our 'World of Work' week, primary 2b were very lucky to have some very interesting visitors in our class. We learnt about different types of jobs that we could do when we grow up. We have learnt about what it takes to be a minister, what's involved in being in the army and also about how fossils are formed! It was a week full of information that we found fascinating. We were asked if we had any thoughts about what we would like to be when we grow up and some of us already know what we would like to do! The jobs mentioned included being a footballer, a hairdresser, a teacher, a dancer and a scientist. We are going to work very hard so that we can be whatever we want when we grow up!

The Three Little Pigs

Primary 2b have been practising telling the time. We are working on o'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. Our favourite times are half past 10 and quarter past 12!

Dinosaurs!

Last week we came into our classroom to find a scroll from Professor Dino. He has written to us to ask us to find out as much as we can about dinosaurs and get others interested in dinosaurs so that they are not forgotten about. We are very excited about our term 3 topic. So far we have changed our hometeams, we are now Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Pterodactyl and Diplodocus. We can't wait to transform our classroom into the land of the dinosaurs!

Christmas Crafts

Primary 2b made Christmas Santa baskets for the Kirklandneuk Christmas Fayre. We coloured in our Santa baskets, cut them out and glued them together. Then we gave Santa some googly eyes. We filled our baskets with mint chocolates, they smelled delicious!

Primary 2b have been working together to solve problems. We have used some of our problem solving strategies including look for a pattern and act out the situation. We have all been effective contributors by working collaboratively, taking turns to speak and helping one another.

Our new school!

Primary 2b are excited to be back after the holidays and are settling in well in their new classroom. This week the children and their new teacher, Miss Emmett, have been getting to know one another. We are getting used to our new routines in our new building.

This week we have written a newspaper report about moving school, we wrote about what we like about our new building and how we are feeling about moving.

Our pupil of the week is Megan, our mathematician of the week is Aiden and our writer of the week is Matthew. Well done!

Settling in

All the children in Primary 2b have settled very well into the new session in Room 7. Already everyone is working very hard and has achieved many successes to show this - for example, Pupil of the Week, Writer of the Week and Mathematician of the Week. Here are sone photos of us all working very hard at Maths time.

Some lucky children have been able to take our class pet, Barney Bear, home at the weekends. Barney loves the chance to stay with his friends in P2b and loves all the different adventures he has and we all love hearing and reading about them when he returns to school on Monday mornings. We are all really looking forward to getting the photos developed to see just what Barney and his friends have been up to!

Six Dinner Sid

Our very first topic in Primary 2 has been Six Dinner Sid. We have enjoyed lots of different things in this topic, such as reading the book, predicting what Sid might get up to next then reading the real sequel, learning about pet care and a visit from a vet to name just a few!

One of the most exciting things has to be when all of the Primary 2s visited Pets at Home! We got to see and hear about all the different animals and how to look after them. Barney came too and had a wonderful time, in fact the trip was so exciting that even our Primary 1 teachers came too! Look how much fun we're all having in these photos.
